Regular Season Round 12: Alvik Basket - Mark 59-107
Date: January 21, 2023
There was a small surprise when eighth ranked Mark (5-7) crushed 6th ranked Alvik Basket (6-7) in Stockholm 107-59 on Saturday. Mark shot 28 for 38 from the free-throw line, while Alvik Basket only scored four points from the stripe. They outrebounded Alvik Basket 70-29 including a 52-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Mark made 8 blocks. The winners were led by American guard Brooklyn Pannell (175-1999, college: Charleston) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 32 points, 14 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals (perfect from downtown making all five shots) and the other American import forward Brianna Herlihy (183-1998, college: Villanova) supported her with 25 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Five Mark players scored in double figures. Even 11 points by Hanna Jolinder (-2006) did not help to save the game for Alvik Basket. Finnish forward Lotta Vesiluoma (172-1997) added 5 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Alvik Basket's coach Daniel Nilo gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Mark maintains eighth position with 5-7 record. Alvik Basket lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with seven games lost. Mark will meet higher ranked IK Eos (#7) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Alvik Basket will play against the league's leader Sodertalje where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
