There was no surprise when 14th ranked Valdarno (1-16) was defeated on the road by tenth ranked Faenza (6-11) 70-54 on Saturday. Faenza dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Valdarno's 32. Faenza forced 21 Valdarno turnovers. Nigerian forward Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah (188-1997, college: Northwestern) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds for the winners and American guard Jori Davis (178-1989, college: Indiana) chipped in 15 points. Australian guard Madeleine Garrick (180-1992) responded with 14 points and 7 rebounds and Serbian-Hungarian forward Tijana Krivacevic (196-1990) scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Faenza moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Moncalieri. Valdarno lost their eleventh game in a row. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom position with 16 games lost. Faenza will meet higher ranked Campobasso (#7) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Valdarno will play against Brescia (#13) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
