Very expected game when 9th ranked Katarzynki (5-10) was smashed by second ranked Polkowice (12-3) in Torun 89-68 on Sunday. Polkowice outrebounded Katarzynki 37-24 including 25 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Greek forward Artemis Spanou (187-1993, college: RMU) nailed 18 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side and the former international point guard Weronika Gajda (174-1989) accounted for 12 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Forward Aleksandra Pszczolarska (180-2001) came up with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and American guard Alexis Jones (175-1994, college: Baylor) added 12 points and 8 assists respectively for Katarzynki in the defeat. Five Polkowice and four Katarzynki players scored in double figures. Polkowice have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Defending champion maintains second place with 12-3 record having just two points less than leader Gorzow Wlkp. Loser Katarzynki keeps the ninth position with ten games lost. Polkowice will meet at home Polonia W-wa (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Katarzynki will play against Bydgoszcz and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
