Regular Season Round 18: Spojnia - Legia 97-80

Everything could happen in Stargard at the game between two tied teams. Both fifth ranked Spojnia and 6th ranked Legia had identical 10-7 record. This time Spojnia used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Warszawa 97-80 on Friday night. Spojnia dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Legia's 20 and made 27-of-34 free shots (79.4 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American point guard Courtney Fortson (180-1988, college: Arkansas) who scored 30 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field). The other American import center Barret Benson (208-1997, college: SIU) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. Five Spojnia players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American Billy Garrett (198-1994, college: DePaul) who recorded 26 points and 5 assists (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!) and Puerto Rican-American guard Kyle Vinales (188-1992, college: CCSU, agency: 011 Sports) added 11 points and 10 assists respectively. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Spojnia (11-7) have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position. Legia at the other side keeps the sixth place with eight games lost. Spojnia will meet GTK (#13) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Legia will play against Anwil (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
