Regular Season Round 16: Milano - Carugate 72-51
Date: January 28, 2023
No shocking result in a game when first ranked Milano (15-1) crushed at home 8th ranked Carugate (7-9) 72-51 on Saturday. They outrebounded Carugate 47-35 including a 40-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Milano made 8 blocks. The winners were led by Dutch center Richelle Van Der Keijl (196-1993, college: N.Mexico) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 16 points and 17 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and swingman Susanna Toffali (174-1998) supported her with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Even 11 points and 9 rebounds by Croatian forward Iva Belosevic (191-1997, college: UTRGV) did not help to save the game for Carugate. Canadian forward Christina Morra (188-2000, college: Wake Forest) added 16 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Milano have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 15-1 record. Loser Carugate dropped to the seventh place with nine games lost. They share the position with Bolzano BC and Mantova. Milano will meet Bolzano AV (#12) on the road in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Carugate will play against Broni (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
