Very expected game when 13th ranked Melilla (6-13) lost to seventh ranked Al-Qazeres (11-8) in Caceres 60-67 on Saturday. Al-Qazeres forced 19 Melilla turnovers and outrebounded them 44-30 including 32 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by American guard Kate Andersen (175-1997, college: Portland) who scored that evening 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Celia Garcia-Panuero (180-1995, college: UIW) supported her with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Four Al-Qazeres players scored in double figures. Even 18 points by point guard Laura Fernandez (169-1989) did not help to save the game for Melilla. Teresa Mbomio (-2002) added 8 points and 9 rebounds for the guests. Melilla's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Al-Qazeres maintains seventh position with 11-8 record. Newly promoted Melilla keeps the thirteenth place with 13 games lost. Al-Qazeres will meet Lima-Horta (#12) in the next round where they are favorite. Melilla will play against Paterna and hope to secure a win.
