Everything went according to plan in Madrid where seventh ranked Zentro Basket (8-6) won against 13th ranked Santa Cruz (3-11) 87-82 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Worth to mention a great performance of Mexican forward Victor Valdes (196-2004) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 5 rebounds and swingman Hector Figueroa (194-2001) who added 14 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American Romeo Smith (201-1995, college: Missouri Valley) responded with 29 points and 9 rebounds and Turkish forward Erkam Kiris (203-1998, college: Davis & Elkins) scored 13 points and 7 rebounds. Four Santa Cruz players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Zentro Basket moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 5 other teams. Santa Cruz lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the thirteenth position with 11 games lost. Zentro Basket will meet Rivas (#5) on the road in the next round. Santa Cruz will play against La Solana (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
