Rather predictable result when second ranked Polkowice (13-3) defeated at home 5th ranked Poznan (9-8) 95-79 on Saturday. Polkowice shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 54.8 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The best player for the winners was Zimbabwean-American center Stephanie Mavunga (191-1995, college: Ohio St., agency: LBM Management) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international point guard Weronika Gajda (174-1989) chipped in 15 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Maya Dodson (191-1999, college: Notre Dame) who recorded 18 points and 9 rebounds and her fellow American import guard Alecia Sutton (173-1998, college: Texas) added 15 points and 7 assists respectively. Five Polkowice and four Poznan players scored in double figures. Polkowice have an impressive six-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains second position with 13-3 record having four points less than leader Gorzow Wlkp. Loser Poznan dropped to the sixth place with eight games lost. Polkowice will meet at home Polonia W-wa (#7) in the next round where they are favorite. Poznan will play against Arka Gdynia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
