Regular Season Round 16: Mondragon - Solares 83-55

There was no surprise when 9th ranked Solares (6-9) was crushed on the road by fourth ranked Mondragon (10-5) 83-55 on Sunday. Mondragon dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Solares' 28. They outrebounded Solares 48-37 including a 37-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of swingman Andoni Acha (195-1999) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Joseba Estalayo (188-1996) who added 10 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Four Mondragon players scored in double figures. At the losing side Diego Garcia (192-2000) responded with 12 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Carlos Sepulveda (178-1996) scored 12 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Mondragon moved-up to third place, which they share with Easo and UAF Lucentum. Loser Solares dropped to the eighth position with nine games lost. They share it with 5 other teams. Mondragon will meet Pas Pielagos (#13) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Solares will play against Ardoi (#11) in Zizur Mayor and hope to secure a win.
