There was no surprise in Hafnarfjordur where 5th ranked Grindavik (8-10) was defeated by third ranked Haukar (14-4) 77-67 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Haukar. Grindavik managed to win fourth quarter 20-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Haukar had a 16-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. American guard Keira Robinson (170-1994, college: VCU) scored 15 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals to lead the charge for the winners and the former international forward Eva Kristjansdottir (186-1997) chipped in 15 points and 8 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) during the contest. The best for the losing side was American guard Danielle Rodriguez (177-1993, college: Utah) with 23 points and 7 assists and guard Hulda Olafsdottir (173-2003) scored 15 points and 6 rebounds. Five Haukar and four Grindavik players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Haukar maintains third position with 14-4 record having just two points less than leader Keflavik. Loser Grindavik keeps the fifth place with ten games lost. Haukar will meet Fjolnir (#6) in the next round. Grindavik will play against the league's second-placed Valur and hope to secure a win.
