The game between closely ranked teams ended with sixth ranked Armann's (8-8) home victory over 7th ranked Athena (6-10) in Reykjavik 80-53 on Wednesday. The game without a history. Armann led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Athena's 24. Armann forced 27 Athena turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Guard Jonina Karlsdottir (170-1999) notched 21 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort and American forward Schekinah Bimpa (180-1998, college: Limestone) supported her with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Bimpa is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Even 9 points and 9 rebounds by Bulgarian guard Iolanda Cossa (167-1995) did not help to save the game for Athena. Guard Anna Lucic (164-2002) added 15 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Armann have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain sixth position with 8-8 record. Athena lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with ten games lost. Armann will meet higher ranked Thor AK (#3) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Athena will have a break next round.
