Date: February 1, 2023
Subway League top team - Keflavik (17-2) had no problems winning another game on Wednesday. This time they crushed eighth ranked IR (1-18) 99-51. The game without a history. Keflavik led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding IR to just 6 points in third quarter. Keflavik forced 27 IR turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by IR's players. Worth to mention a great performance of Bulgarian point guard Karina Konstantinova (173-1999) who helped to win the game recording 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (perfect behind the arc making all five shots). International Anna Svansdottir (175-2001) contributed with 19 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Four Keflavik players scored in double figures. Forward Anika Hjalmarsdottir (176-1997) answered with 15 points and 7 rebounds and swingman Solrun Saemundsdottir (176-1996) added 12 points in the effort for IR. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Keflavik maintains first place with 17-2 record. IR lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay dead last with 18 lost games. Keflavik are looking forward to face Grindavik (#5) at home in the next round. IR will play against Breidablik and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
