The game in Kouvola was also quite interesting. Vilpas (13-12) played at the court of Kouvot (13-12). Kouvot managed to secure a 6-point victory 109-103 on Friday. Vilpas was trailing by 2 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 23-16 charge of Kouvot, which allowed them to win the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Austin Butler (196, college: Charlotte) who led the winners and scored 41 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import forward John Meeks (198-1999, college: Charleston) accounted for 29 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side. American forward Ira Lee (203-1998, college: GWU) came up with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists and the former international guard Roope Ahonen (187-1990, agency: Blacktop Management) added 17 points and 6 assists respectively for Vilpas in the defeat. Four Kouvot and five Vilpas players scored in double figures. Vilpas' coach Jussi Savolainen rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Kouvot will meet Kataja (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Vilpas will play against Kauhajoki and hope to secure a win.
