Regular Season Round 17: Azulejos - Mataro UE 62-70

There was no surprise in Zaragoza where 12th ranked Azulejos (5-11) was defeated by second ranked Mataro UE (14-2) 70-62 on Saturday. Mataro UE forced 19 Azulejos turnovers. Forward Jordi Juanola (196-1998) stepped up and scored 21 points and 7 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) for the winners and forward Pol Canovas (203-1999) chipped in 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Center Francisco Cobos (195-1995) responded with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds and naturalized Andorra forward Guillem Colom (195-1991, agency: BIG) scored 13 points and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for Mataro UE. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Vic and Chantada. Loser Azulejos dropped to the eleventh place with 11 games lost. They share the position with 5 other teams. Mataro UE will meet at home Martorell (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Azulejos will play against Castelldefels and hope to secure a win.
