Regular Season Round 19: Jairis - Valencia 48-74
Date: February 4, 2023
There was no surprise in Alcantarilla where 14th ranked Jairis (7-13) was crushed by second ranked Valencia (16-4) 74-48 on Saturday. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Valencia made 7 blocks. It was a great evening for American forward Lauren Cox (193-1998, college: Baylor, agency: LBM Management) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 11 rebounds and 7 blocks. The former international swingman Queralt Casas (177-1992) helped adding 8 points and 13 rebounds. At the losing side Mozambican forward Tamara Seda (193-1994, college: UTEP) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds and American-Slovenian power forward Shante Evans (185-1991, college: Hofstra) scored 6 points and 5 rebounds. Jairis' coach Lucas Fernandez gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Valencia maintains second place with 16-4 record behind leader Girona. Newly promoted Jairis keeps the fourteenth position with 13 games lost. Valencia will meet at home league's leader Girona in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Jairis will play against Leganes (#15) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
