Second Stage Round 3: Kotka - Kauhajoki 87-88

Sixth-ranked Kotka (12-13) used its home court advantage to challenge Kauhajoki (20-4) on Saturday. The visitors from Kauhajoki managed to secure only one-point victory 88-87. However their fans expected much easier game. Kotka was trailing by 5 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 20-18 charge of Kauhajoki, which allowed them to win the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. It was a good game for point guard Severi Kaukiainen (185-1998, agency: Blacktop Management) who saved his team from a defeat with 16 points and 6 assists. American guard Cameron Jones (193-1989, college: NAU, agency: BIG) contributed with 18 points and 5 assists for the winners. Jones is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Kauhajoki's coach Janne Koskimies used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. American point guard Brandon Sly (180-1996, college: ASU) answered with 22 points and the other American import guard Roydell Brown (198-1998, college: McNeese St.) added 14 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Kotka. Four Kauhajoki and five Kotka players scored in double figures. Kauhajoki are looking forward to face Vilpas (#5) in Salo in the next round. Kotka will play at home against Seagulls and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
