Regular Season Round 17: Almeda - Maresme 49-60

Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Barcelona: Maresme (#6) and Almeda (#7). Almeda was defeated at home 49-60 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Maresme forced 23 Almeda turnovers. Laia Soler (185-2001, college: Boise St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and forward Mireia Vila (182-1991, college: St.Joseph's) chipped in 13 points. Alba Barneda (-2003) responded with 10 points and 6 rebounds and Nuria Jurjo scored 9 points. Almeda's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Maresme (11-6) moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Mataro. Loser Almeda keeps the seventh position with eight games lost. Maresme will meet at home Lleida (#8) in the next round. Almeda will play against Mataro and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
