Regular Season Round 19: Alftanes - Thor AK 117-55

D1 top team - Alftanes (17-2) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed tenth ranked Thor AK (1-16) in Reykjavik 117-55. The game without a history. Alftanes led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Thor AK's 34. Alftanes forced 19 Thor AK turnovers and outrebounded them 49-33 including a 37-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 31 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Thor AK's players. It was a great evening for Eysteinn Aevarsson (196-1995) who led his team to a victory scoring 16 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Guard Unnsteinn Karason (185-2001) helped adding 20 points. Five Alftanes players scored in double figures. At the losing side forward Baldur Johannsson (195-2001) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Smari Jonsson (179-2001) scored 19 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Alftanes have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 17-2 record. Thor AK lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 16 games lost. Alftanes will play against league's second-placed Hamar on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Thor AK will play against IA (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
