Regular Season Round 5: Tbilisi - Sokhumi 102-70

The game between closely ranked teams ended with third ranked Tbilisi's (3-1) home victory over 4th placed Sokhumi (1-1) 102-70 on Wednesday. The game without a history. Tbilisi led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Sokhumi's 36. They outrebounded Sokhumi 58-33 including a 38-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Tbilisi looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Sokhumi's players. The best player for the winners was guard Andria Mgeladze (180) who had a triple-double by scoring 27 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Giorgi Darchia (185) chipped in 16 points. Forward Giorgi Zurabishvili (198-2006) produced 30 points and 7 rebounds and forward Giorgi Gabunia (194-2006) added 14 points and 14 rebounds respectively for the guests. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Tbilisi have a solid series of three victories in a row. They used an opportunity after Orbi lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position. Loser Sokhumi keeps the fourth place with one game lost. Tbilisi will meet Basco (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Sokhumi will play against Gori and hope to win that game.
