Regular Season Round 16: Breidablik - IR 91-104

There was an upset in Kopavogur where higher ranked Breidablik (8-8) was defeated by eleventh ranked IR (4-12) 104-91 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by IR. Breidablik managed to win fourth quarter 23-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. IR dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Breidablik's 48 and made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Breidablik 48-29 including 33 on the defensive glass. IR looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American forward Taylor Johns (201-1994, college: UC Riverside, agency: Slash Sports) fired a double-double by scoring 18 points, 17 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Guard Hakon Hjalmarsson (190-1999, college: Binghamton) chipped in 20 points. American guard Everage Richardson (191-1985, college: Coastal) produced 22 points and 5 rebounds and his fellow American import guard Jeremy Smith (190-1991, college: Nicholls St.) added 21 points (made all of his ten free throws !!!) respectively for lost side. Five IR and four Breidablik players scored in double figures. IR maintains eleventh position with 4-12 record. Loser Breidablik keeps the fifth place with eight games lost. IR will meet at home higher ranked Haukar (#4) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Breidablik will play against the league's leader Njardvik having rather not much hope for a victory.
