Second Stage Round 4: Lahti - Nokia 85-88
Date: February 11, 2023
Rather predictable result when eighth ranked Nokia (13-13) edged on the road 10th ranked Lahti (9-17) 88-85 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Lahti won third quarter 15-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely Lahti outrebounded Nokia 45-27 including a 34-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Point guard Niko Mattila (192-1994) fired 25 points for the winners. American forward Malik Benlevi (198-1997, college: Georgia St., agency: Verus Management) chipped in 13 points and 9 rebounds. Benlevi is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American forward Chris Clarke (196-1996, college: Texas Tech) produced a triple-double by scoring 22 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists and his fellow American import guard Michael Ertel II (188-1999, college: UAB) added 19 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Nokia moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Lahti keeps the tenth position with 17 games lost. Nokia will meet at home Kobrat (#7) in the next round. Lahti will play against Korihait in Uusikaupunki and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
