Regular Season Round 17: HNMKY - HBA-Marsky 75-68

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Helsinki: HNMKY (#6) and HBA-Marsky (#8). HNMKY (10-7) won against visiting HBA-Marsky (7-10) 75-68. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 15-9. But HBA-Marsky won second period 23-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. HNMKY forced 23 HBA-Marsky turnovers and had a 22-11 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when HNMKY made 8 blocks. Forward Elias Leskinen (199-2002) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. Point guard Lenni Hervola (179-2003) contributed with 17 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Four HNMKY players scored in double figures. Swingman Viljami Vartiainen (195-2004) answered with 14 points and 8 rebounds and center Olavi Suutela (201-2006) added 15 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for HBA-Marsky. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. HNMKY moved-up to fourth place, which they share with ToPo Juniorit and Kipina. HBA-Marsky lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with ten games lost. HNMKY is looking forward to face Pyrinto Ak.A (#7) in Tampere in the next round. HBA-Marsky will play on the road against Kipina in Aanekoski and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
