Very important is a home loss of second ranked Patti (13-5) against sixth ranked Matelica (11-7) on Sunday night. Host Patti was defeated by Matelica in Patti 75-65. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Patti. Matelica made 18-of-21 charity shots (85.7 percent) during the game. They also forced 21 Patti turnovers. It was a good game for Argentinian point guard Debora Gonzalez (170-1990, agency: Players Group) who led her team to a victory with 18 points, 9 assists and 4 steals. Dutch center Laura Steggink (185-1997) contributed with 19 points for the winners. Forward Marta Verona (174-1994) replied with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and the former international guard Allegra Botteghi (181-1995, college: Providence) added 17 points in the effort for Patti. Four Patti players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Matelica moved-up to fifth place. Patti at the other side keeps the second position with five games lost. Matelica will play against higher ranked Battipaglia (#3) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Patti will play against San Salvatore and hopes to get back on the winning track.
