There was no surprise in Akureyri where 10th ranked Thor AK (1-20) was crushed by sixth ranked Fjolnir (9-12) 116-82 on Monday. The game was mostly controlled by Fjolnir. Thor AK managed to win fourth quarter 28-26. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Fjolnir looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Fjolnir made 9 blocks. Canadian power forward Lewis Diankulu (201-1995, college: Queens, NC) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and Swedish forward Simon Fransis (201-1995, college: Webber) chipped in 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was guard Smari Jonsson (179-2001) with 15 points and 9 assists and forward Andri Johannesson (199-2002) scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Five Fjolnir and four Thor AK players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Fjolnir. They maintain sixth place with 9-12 record, which they share with Hrunamenn. Thor AK lost their ninth game in a row. They stay dead last with 20 lost games. Fjolnir will meet at home Hrunamenn (#7) in the next round. Thor AK will play against Skallagrimur in Borganes and hope to win that game.
