Regular Season Round 15: Split - FSV Rijeka 49-80

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 10th ranked Split (3-11) was crushed at home by eleventh ranked FSV Rijeka (3-12) 80-49 on Wednesday. FSV Rijeka held Split to an opponent 24.7 percent shooting from the field compared to 49.2 percent accuracy of the winners. FSV Rijeka had a 33-20 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Split's players. It was a great evening for Venezuelan guard Waleska Perez (180-1994, college: Weatherford JC) who led her team to a victory scoring 26 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Power forward Josipa Tuftan (187-2001) helped adding 22 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was forward Ivana Brnas (180-1997) with 22 points and 9 rebounds and guard Tea Turic (178-1998) scored 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. FSV Rijeka maintains eleventh place with 3-12 record. Split at the other side keeps the tenth position with 11 games lost. FSV Rijeka will meet at home higher ranked Pozega (#7) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Split will play against Zagreb where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
