Hottur (7-10) survived in overtime against Stjarnan (7-10) by fourteen points 89-75 on Friday night. The game took place in Stjarnan. But the guests from Egilsstadir were better at the end. The guests trailed by 3 points after three quarters before their 14-11 charge, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time and get a 14-point victory in overtime. Hottur made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. American guard Tim Guers (190-1996, college: St.Anselm) stepped up and scored 24 points and 7 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the winners and Dutch-American Bryan Alberts (196-1994, college: LBSU) chipped in 22 points. Alberts is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Four Hottur players scored in double figures. Swedish William Gutenius (206-1992) responded with 22 points and 9 rebounds and American Armani Moore (196-1994, college: Tennessee) scored 15 points and 7 rebounds. Stjarnan's coach Arnar Gudjonsson rotated twelve players in such tough game. Hottur moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Stjarnan. Hottur will meet at home league's second-placed Valur in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Stjarnan will play against Grindavik (#10) and hope to secure a win.
