Regular Season Round 15: Monaco - Calais 67-66
Date: February 18, 2023
Very predictable result when fourth ranked Monaco (9-6) edged at home 10th ranked Calais (6-9) 67-66 on Saturday. However just one-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Monaco forced 19 Calais turnovers and outrebounded them 42-31 including 31 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American forward Ashunae Durant (178, college: Hofstra) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Center Catherine Mosengo-Masa (192-1996) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 14 rebounds. Four Monaco players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Shakayla Thomas (180-1996, college: FSU) who recorded 21 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Melanie Devaux (172-1992, agency: Basket Promotion Agency) added 17 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) respectively. Newly promoted Monaco maintains fourth place with 9-6 record. Loser Calais dropped to the ninth position with nine games lost. They share it with Mondeville and Aulnoye. Monaco will meet league's second-placed Feytiat on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Calais will play against Champagne (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
