Bottom-ranked Catz Lappeenranta (0-22) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 125-56 loss to sixth ranked Torpan Pojat (12-8) in Helsinki on Saturday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Torpan Pojat. Catz Lappeenranta managed to win fourth quarter 22-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Catz Lappeenranta to just 7 points in second quarter. Torpan Pojat dominated down low during the game scoring 78 of its points in the paint compared to Catz Lappeenranta's 34. Torpan Pojat forced 30 Catz Lappeenranta turnovers and outrebounded them 51-33 including 18 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 38 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Catz Lappeenranta's players. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Iimari Thomas (178-2000, college: UCLA) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 27 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals and the former international guard Meri Kanerva (177) who added 12 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. Five Torpan Pojat players scored in double figures. At the losing side American center Terri Battle (188-1999, college: Tampa) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and her fellow American import guard Sydni Tears (183, college: Talladega) scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Torpan Pojat have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain sixth position with 12-8 record. Catz Lappeenranta at the other side still closes the standings. Torpan Pojat will meet Vimpelin Veto (#7) on the road in the next round. Catz Lappeenranta will play against Kouvottaret in Kouvola and hopes to get finally their first victory.
