Regular Season Round 19: Vicenza - Ponzano 57-51

There was a small surprise when fourteenth ranked Vicenza (3-15) defeated at home 12th ranked Ponzano (4-15) 57-51 on Sunday. Vicenza forced 19 Ponzano turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for Slovenian guard Sara Vujacic (180-1996, college: Maryland) who led the winners and scored 20 points and 5 rebounds. Naturalized Puerto Rican center Sofia Roma (188-1996, college: Duke) accounted for 9 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. Point guard Matilde Bianchi (170-2003) came up with 13 points and 5 rebounds and forward Giovanna Pertile (182-1992) added 10 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Ponzano in the defeat. Ponzano's coach Matteo Gambarotto tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. The victory was the third consecutive win for Vicenza. They maintain fourteenth place with 3-15 record, which they share with Cagliari. Loser Ponzano keeps the twelfth position with 15 games lost. They share it with Bolzano AV. Vicenza will meet higher ranked Bolzano BC (#11) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ponzano will play against Treviso and hope to secure a win.
