Regular Season Round 21: Olimpia - Gomel 115-47

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Grodno. Third ranked Olimpia faced 4th placed Gomel. Host Olimpia (15-2) smashed guests from Gomel (10-9) 115-47. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Gomel. Olimpia dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Gomel's 24. Olimpia forced 36 Gomel turnovers and outrebounded them 58-30 including a 27-12 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 35 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Gomel's players. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Hanna Lapo (189-1997, agency: LBM Management) who scored 24 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Forward Irina Kravchenko (183-2001) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds. Four Olimpia players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Ilona Katsyro (170-2005) who recorded 8 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and power forward Olga Kopylova (187-1982) added 8 points and 5 rebounds respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Olimpia have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Gorizont. Gomel at the other side keeps the fourth position with nine games lost. Olimpia is looking forward to face RGUOR (#7) in Minsk in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Gomel will have a break next round.
