There was a small surprise in Palencia where eighth ranked Filipenses (10-9) edged 5th ranked Cantbasket (10-9) 69-66 on Saturday. Worth to mention a great performance of Argentinian-Italian guard Silvano Merlo (193-2002) who helped to win the game recording 14 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists and Gambian power forward Papa Njie (205-2003) who added 12 points and 12 rebounds during the contest. Four Filipenses players scored in double figures. Filipenses' coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American power forward Cordell Pemsl (203-1997, college: Virginia Tech) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and forward Jorge Otero (195-2004) scored 13 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Filipenses have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 9 other teams including defeated Cantbasket. Filipenses will meet Easo (#8) in the next round. Cantbasket will play against Solares and hope to secure a win.
