We should mention about the upset which took place in Alcantarilla, where higher ranked Araski (11-12) lost to fourteenth ranked Jairis (8-14) in a road game 74-78 on Sunday. Portuguese guard Maria Bettencourt (173-1991) scored 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Brazilian center Erika De Souza (197-1982) chipped in 11 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Four Jairis players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard Tanaya Atkinson (183-1996, college: Temple) responded with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and her fellow American import center Chatrice White (190-1996, college: FSU) scored 12 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted Jairis maintains fourteenth position with 8-14 record. Loser Araski keeps the seventh place with 12 games lost. They share the position with Estudiantes. Jairis will meet league's second-placed Girona on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Araski will play against Ensino (#12) and hope to secure a win.
