Second Stage Round 7: Montana - Lavovi 85-62
Date: March 4, 2023
There was no surprise when 8th ranked Bosnian Lavovi (1-11) was crushed on the road by fourth ranked Bulgarian Montana (7-6) 85-62. The game without a history. Montana led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Lavovi's 26. Montana forced 22 Lavovi turnovers and outrebounded them 51-28 including a 18-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Gabriela Nikolova (183-1997) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 21 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. American Shereen Sutherland (188-1994, college: UC Irvine) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Four Montana players scored in double figures. Center Mirela Halilovic (183-1998) answered with 17 points and 4 assists and Serbian guard Milica Djokic (178-2005) added 12 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Lavovi. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted Montana maintains fourth place with 7-6 record. Lavovi at the other side stay at the bottom position with 11 games lost. Montana will play against higher ranked Vojvodina 021 (#3) in Novi Sad in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Lavovi will play on the road against Zagreb (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
