No shocking result in a game when first ranked Chantada (18-2) crushed 14th ranked Covadonga (1-19) in Gijon 79-47 on Sunday. Chantada dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Covadonga's 26. They outrebounded Covadonga 49-21 including a 38-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Guard Alejandro Rodriguez (188-1998) nailed 16 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side and forward Cristian Iglesias (200-1994) accounted for 17 points and 9 rebounds. Four Chantada players scored in double figures. Center Pablo Santiago (200-1999) came up with 11 points and Alejandro Gomez (184-2004) added 8 points respectively for Covadonga in the defeat. Covadonga's coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Chantada have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. They maintain first place with 18-2 record, which they share with Santfeliuenc and Vic. Newly promoted Covadonga dropped to the thirteenth position with 19 games lost. They share it with Agora Portals and Jorge Juan. Chantada will meet at home La Flecha (#12) in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Covadonga will play against Ourense and hope to win that game.
