Regular Season Round 20: Kouvot Ak. - Kipina 87-112

Very expected game when 11th ranked Kouvot Ak. (4-15) was smashed by fourth ranked Kipina (13-7) in Kouvola 112-87 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Kipina. Kouvot Ak. managed to win second period 28-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kipina dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Kouvot Ak.'s 36. They outrebounded Kouvot Ak. 55-42 including 42 on the defensive glass. Kipina looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The winners were led by American guard ArMond Davis (196-1995, college: UCSB) who scored that evening 29 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and power forward Ville Virtaharju (201-2000) supported him with 28 points and 10 rebounds. Davis is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Kipina players scored in double figures. Even 38 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 5 assists by forward Teemu Kristeri (195-2002) did not help to save the game for Kouvot Ak.. Forward Patrik En (193-2004) added 22 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the hosts. Kipina have a solid four-game winning streak. Newly promoted Kipina maintains fourth position with 13-7 record. Kouvot Ak. lost eleventh consecutive game. They keep the eleventh place with 15 games lost. They share the position with Kristika Turku. Kipina will meet at home bottom-ranked Kristika Turku (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Kouvot Ak. will play against HNMKY and hope to secure a win.
