Regular Season Round 18: Thor Thorl - IR 91-87
Date: March 5, 2023
No shocking result in a game when seventh ranked Thor Thorl (8-10) beat 11th ranked IR (4-14) in Thorlakshofn 91-87 on Sunday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 29-20 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Thor Thorl made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Thor Thorl made 8 blocks. American point guard Vinnie Shahid (180-1998, college: NDSU) notched 28 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists to lead the effort and American-French forward Jordan Semple (201-1992, college: Chico St.) supported him with 20 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks. Even a double-double of 19 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists by the former international forward Collin Pryor (200-1990, college: Northern St., agency: Mansfield and Associates) did not help to save the game for IR. Guard Hakon Hjalmarsson (190-1999, college: Binghamton) added 27 points and 4 assists. Four IR players scored in double figures. Thor Thorl have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Grindavik and Breidablik. IR at the other side keeps the eleventh position with 14 games lost. Thor Thorl will meet league's leader Njardvik on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. IR's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Reykjavik KR.
