Second Stage Round 8: Duga - Celje 53-89
Date: March 8, 2023
The game in Sabac supposed to be also quite interesting. Second ranked Slovenian Celje (12-2) played at the court of 6th ranked Serbian Duga (3-9). Celje smashed Duga 89-53 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Celje. Duga managed to win third quarter 26-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Duga to just 6 points in first quarter. Celje dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Duga's 30. Celje forced 28 Duga turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Duga's players. The winners were led by American Sara Loomis (188-1997, college: Ashland) who scored that evening 19 points and center Mojca Jelenc (200-2003) supported her with 16 points and 5 rebounds. Even 15 points and 6 rebounds by forward Olga Stepanovic (180-1994) did not help to save the game for Duga. American forward Courtney Cleveland (178-1999, college: SHSU) added 13 points and 6 rebounds for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending Slovenian champion maintains second position with 12-2 record having just one point less than leader Buducnost. Duga lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh place with nine games lost.
