Regular Season Round 24: Haukar - Keflavik 64-85

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Hafnarfjordur. First ranked Keflavik faced second-best Haukar. Guests from Keflavik (21-2) smashed host Haukar (19-5) 85-64. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Haukar. It looked good early as Haukar took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Keflavik had a 20-10 second period charge getting the lead and Haukar was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 64-85. Keflavik dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Haukar's 22. It was a good game for Venezuelan Daniela Wallen (179-1995, college: Okla City) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists. The former international forward Birna Benonysdottir (187-2000, college: Binghamton) contributed with 30 points for the winners. Keflavik's coach Hordur Vilhjalmsson felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Keira Robinson (170-1994, college: VCU) replied with 11 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists and the former international forward Lovisa Henningsdottir (186-1995, college: Marist) added 16 points in the effort for Haukar. Keflavik have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 21-2 record. Haukar at the other side dropped to the third place with five games lost. Keflavik will play against league's second-placed Valur in Reykjavik in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Haukar will play on the road against Grindavik and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
