Bottom-ranked Catz Lappeenranta (0-25) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 100-61 loss to ninth ranked Marsky Helsinki (7-18) in Helsinki on Friday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Marsky Helsinki. Catz Lappeenranta managed to win third quarter 24-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Marsky Helsinki forced 33 Catz Lappeenranta turnovers and had a 16-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for international guard Elina Aarnisalo (177-2005) who led her team to a victory scoring 26 points and 7 steals. The former international guard Kati Ollilainen (173-2003) helped adding 17 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Marsky Helsinki players scored in double figures. At the losing side American center Terri Battle (188-1999, college: Tampa) responded with 25 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import guard Sydni Tears (183, college: Talladega) scored 21 points and 8 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Marsky Helsinki maintains ninth place with 7-18 record. Loser Catz Lappeenranta still closes the standings. Marsky Helsinki will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Catz Lappeenranta will play against Torpan Pojat (#6) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
