Regular Season Round 22: Avila - Gijon 82-56

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when one of their biggest challengers Gijon (16-5) was rolled over on the road by fourth ranked Avila (14-7) 82-56 on Saturday. Point guard Antonio Izquierdo (189-1993, agency: Promo Sport ID) fired 21 points for the winners. Argentinian forward Alejo Maggi (203-2002) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds. Four Avila players scored in double figures. Javier Lucas (207-1986) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 rebounds and Montenegrin power forward Milo Vukcevic (200-1996) added 10 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Gijon's coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Avila have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with La Leonesa and Getxo. Loser Gijon keeps the third position with five games lost. Avila will meet Covadonga (#14) in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Gijon will play against Xiria (#8) and hope to secure a win and be promoted back to the LEB Silver just one year after relegation.
