Rather expected game when 11th ranked Faenza (6-18) was smashed by ninth ranked San Martino (10-14) in San Martino di L 86-57 on Sunday. San Martino dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Faenza's 26. San Martino forced 22 Faenza turnovers and had a 28-17 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Even 18 points and 7 rebounds by Nigerian forward Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah (188-1997, college: Northwestern) did not help to save the game for Faenza. Point guard Rosa Cupido (167-1992) added 7 points and 5 assists. San Martino will meet higher ranked Venezia (#3) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Faenza will play against Crema (#8) and hope to secure a win.
