Rather expected game when 11th ranked Faenza (6-18) was smashed by ninth ranked San Martino (10-14) in San Martino di L 86-57 on Sunday. San Martino dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Faenza's 26. San Martino forced 22 Faenza turnovers and had a 28-17 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The winners were led by American forward Dejza James (185-1995, college: Arizona) who scored that evening 19 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import guard Delicia Washington (178-1997, college: Clemson) supported her with 18 points and 4 steals (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Even 18 points and 7 rebounds by Nigerian forward Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah (188-1997, college: Northwestern) did not help to save the game for Faenza. Point guard Rosa Cupido (167-1992) added 7 points and 5 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. San Martino moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Crema. Faenza lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with 18 games lost. They share it with Lucca. San Martino will meet higher ranked Venezia (#3) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Faenza will play against Crema (#8) and hope to secure a win.
