Regular Season Round 24: Moncalieri - Venezia 66-79

No shocking result in a game when third ranked Venezia (20-4) beat on the road 10th ranked Moncalieri (7-17) 79-66 on Sunday. Venezia forced 19 Moncalieri turnovers. The winners were led by American forward Jessica Shepard (193-1996, college: Notre Dame) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds and Belgian Antonia Delaere (181-1994) supported her with 13 points. Four Venezia players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 17 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) by American forward Kathryn Westbeld (190-1996, college: Notre Dame) did not help to save the game for Moncalieri. Her fellow American import guard Chelsea Mitchell (175-1997, college: Morgan St.) added 14 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Venezia maintains third position with 20-4 record having just two points less than leader Bologna. Moncalieri lost third consecutive game. They keep the tenth place with 17 games lost. Venezia will meet at home San Martino (#9) in the next round where they are favorite. Moncalieri will play against Campobasso and hope to secure a win.
