Regular Season Round 22: Maresme - Segle XXI 64-73

Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Barcelona: Segle XXI (#2) and Maresme (#5). Maresme was defeated at home 64-73 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Segle XXI outrebounded Maresme 47-30 including a 36-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Point guard Iyana Martin (172-2006) fired 19 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Center Marina Mata (187-2005) chipped in 8 points and 9 rebounds. Segle XXI's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Swingman Paula Curto (175-1997) produced 17 points and 6 rebounds and Laia Soler (185-2001, college: Boise St.) added 8 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Segle XXI (17-5) have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain second position having just one point less than leader CD Talent, which they share with Sant Josep. Loser Maresme keeps the fifth place with eight games lost. Segle XXI will meet at home Mataro (#6) in the next round. Maresme's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Barcelona to the arena Viladecans.
