Regular Season Round 23: Ponferrada - Clavijo 105-104

The most exciting game of round 23 in the LEB Silver took place in Ponferrada. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of second-ranked Clavijo (16-7) to seventh ranked Ponferrada (12-11) 105-104 on Saturday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. Ponferrada forced 19 Clavijo turnovers. Strangely Clavijo outrebounded Ponferrada 57-34 including a 28-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Ponferrada made 7 blocks. It was a great evening for guard Jorge Martinez (185-1996) who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points and 9 assists. Guard Alejandro Jorda (193-1995, college: Cuesta JC) helped adding 21 points. Croatian forward Demian Balasko (197-1997) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists and Nigerian-American guard Rob Ukawuba (191-1994, college: NJIT) scored 22 points and 7 rebounds. Four Ponferrada and five Clavijo players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Ponferrada have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Zamora. Clavijo at the other side keeps the second position with seven games lost. They share it with Benicarlo. Ponferrada is looking forward to face Talavera (#12) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Clavijo will play against Navarra (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
