Regular Season Round 27: Zamarat - Melilla 74-71

Fourteenth-ranked Melilla (8-17) gave a tough game to second ranked Zamarat (20-6) in Zamora on Saturday. Zamarat managed to secure only three-point victory 74-71. However their fans expected much easier game. Zamarat forced 21 Melilla turnovers. It was a great evening for American-Nigerian center Nneka Ezeigbo (188-1998, college: RMU) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds. Point guard Isabel Latorre (170-1996) helped adding 17 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was Danish Sofie Preetzmann (182-1995) with 16 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Laura Fernandez (169-1989) scored 20 points. Melilla's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Zamarat have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain second place with 20-6 record having five points less than leader Ferrol. Newly promoted Melilla keeps the fourteenth position with 17 games lost. Zamarat are looking forward to face Lima-Horta (#11) in Barcelona in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Melilla will play at home against Real Canoe and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
