The most exciting game of round 9 in the Korisliiga took place in Helsinki. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 6th ranked Torpan Pojat (16-10) to seventh ranked Vimpelin Veto (15-11) 82-79 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Torpan Pojat. Torpan Pojat was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 4-point lead after three quarters before a 26-19 charge of Vimpelin Veto, which allowed them to win the game. They also forced 20 Torpan Pojat turnovers. American guard Tynice Martin (180-1997, college: WVU) stepped up and scored 33 points (!!!), 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals for the winners and her fellow American import forward Alex Wittinger (185-1997, college: Illinois) chipped in 20 points and 8 rebounds. The best for the losing side was the former international center Taru Tuukkanen (192-1977, college: Xavier) with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and American forward Iimari Thomas (178-2000, college: UCLA) scored 23 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Vimpelin Veto have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Honka. Torpan Pojat at the other side keeps the sixth position with ten games lost.
