Regular Season Round 23: Covadonga - Avila 52-82

There was no surprise in Gijon where 14th ranked Covadonga (1-21) was crushed by fourth ranked Avila (15-7) 82-52 on Sunday. Avila outrebounded Covadonga 48-28 including a 36-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Covadonga's players. It was a great evening for naturalized Gibraltar power forward Alejandro Garcia (198-2001) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points and 9 rebounds. Naturalized Andorra point guard Sergio Serrato (185-2002) helped adding 9 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Forward Antonio Adeba (190) responded with 9 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Diego Cuetos (178-2004) scored 9 points and 6 assists. Covadonga's coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Avila have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Getxo. Covadonga lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the thirteenth position with 21 games lost. They share it with Agora Portals and Jorge Juan. Avila will meet at home La Flecha (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Covadonga will play against Xiria in Carballo and hope to win that game.
