No shocking result in a game when second ranked Faenza (19-4) crushed at home 14th ranked Matelica (5-17) 92-65 on Sunday. Faenza made 27-of-34 free shots (79.4 percent) during the game, while Matelica only scored eleven points from the stripe. They outrebounded Matelica 44-29 including 31 on the defensive glass. Faenza looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was an exceptional evening for forward Simone Aromando (200-1997, agency: SLN) who led the winners and scored 17 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Giovanni Poggi (201-1997) accounted for 11 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side. Four Faenza players scored in double figures. Point guard Antonio Gallo (182-2000, agency: Players Group) came up with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and naturalized Senegalese center Fadilou Seck (207-1997, agency: Players Group) added 14 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Matelica in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Faenza. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with 3 other teams. Matelica lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the fourteenth place with 17 games lost. Faenza will meet Firenze (#12) on the road in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Matelica will play against the league's leader Rieti Real and hope to secure a win.
