Regular Season Round 24: Mondragon - Santurtzi 74-95

There was a small surprise when seventh ranked Santurtzi (13-10) crushed on the road one of their biggest challengers Mondragon (13-10) 95-74 on Sunday. Santurtzi dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Mondragon's 26. The winners were led by forward Imanol Artinano (203-1995, college: ABU) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds and guard Miguel Zamora (189-1993) supported him with 17 points. Santurtzi's coach felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Even a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds by swingman Andoni Acha (195-1999) did not help to save the game for Mondragon. Guard Joseba Estalayo (188-1996) added 13 points. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Santurtzi have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 5 other teams including defeated Mondragon. Santurtzi will meet Cantbasket (#4) in the next round. Mondragon will play against Tabirako in Durango and hope to secure a win.
