Rather predictable result when fifth ranked Estudiantes (17-8) won against 7th ranked Alicante (15-10) in Madrid 70-65 on Sunday. Estudiantes made 23-of-27 free shots (85.2 percent) during the game. American-Italian guard Paul Jorgensen (188-1996, college: Butler) nailed 20 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side and Latvian point guard Toms Leimanis (190-1994) accounted for 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Power forward Eduard Gatell (206-1989) came up with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds and Icelandic point guard Aegir Steinarsson (185-1991, college: Newberry) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Alicante in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Estudiantes moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Lleida. Loser Alicante keeps the seventh position with ten games lost. They share it with Burgos and Gipuzkoa. Estudiantes will meet league's second-placed Andorra on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Alicante will play against Coruna (#3) and hope to secure a win.
